Every system is thoughtfully designed to keep your home running independent of the grid, so an outage outside changes nothing inside.
A week-long load analysis shows us how you use energy in real time, so what we build matches the way you live.
Clean installs, discreet equipment placement, and tidy job sites, down to a utility room you'd be proud to show off.
Salt, heat, and humidity wear most gear down fast. We choose batteries and hardware built to outlast all three.
You get the personal attention of a small team and the reliability of a company that's been doing this for years.
Monitoring, maintenance, and ongoing priority support are part of the promise. We respond quickly and get the job done.
“We were nervous: solar is complex, St. John is challenging for projects, and we worried about problems arising when we're off-island with guests in the house. What set VI Solar apart from day one was responsiveness. They also monitored our actual electricity usage for two weeks before recommending a system. That told us everything. Our WAPA bill has gone from an average of $1,400 a month to less than $100. Even when we had a serious post-install issue caused entirely by WAPA, Tucker worked tirelessly to help diagnose and resolve it. There may be less expensive providers, but there is a huge difference between cost and value.”
Robert Gonzales, St. John
“When we decided to install solar, we did some research and spoke with a couple of popular installers. We decided, based on referrals and their extensive knowledge, to go with VI Solar and have not regretted one minute of it. Tucker came out and gave us so much information and answered all of our questions (and boy did we have questions!). The entire team was professional and very responsive. The installation went smoothly, and we highly recommend VI Solar. Will use them for the installation on our second home, too.”
Rita G, St. Thomas
“Tucker is very patient with questions and explanations, and the installation was efficient and neatly done. More important is the aftercare—you can call up and courteously get help. I now have power when WAPA is out, particularly during the island-wide events.”
Katina Coulianos, St. John

“We wanted backup power for when WAPA wasn't working. VI Solar is always loyal to their customers and gives great service. We have electricity all the time, even when the local power company fails—and whenever we have questions or concerns, they respond quickly.”
Ellyn Jonsson, St. John
“A friend who had used VI Solar was very happy, and once I met Tucker, I knew he was the right person for the job. We were doing a new build and needed to maintain power during outages and keep costs manageable for a large house with renters. The installation was clean and easy, we have battery backup when WAPA is out, and our monthly bills are manageable.”
Chris Baker, St. John
“We were experiencing numerous power outages every month at our short-term rental. Tucker laid out multiple options for us to consider based on our budget. We no longer stress about power outages when guests are staying. It's worth reaching out to discuss what solutions are possible.”
Kelly Papa, St. John Property Owner
In 2017, Hurricane Irma left most of St. John without power for more than four months. For Tucker and Lauren, that experience made one thing clear: everything else depends on dependable power.
They didn't set out to start a solar company. What they wanted was a more resilient community because any outage disrupts everything: from work to food to a family’s basic routines.
Today, VI Solar Technologies has installed more than three megawatts of custom-built, clean solar across the USVI. These systems carry homes and businesses through the long outage stretches, steady and self-sufficient.

How many solar panels will I need?
There's no standard number. It depends on how much energy your property uses and when.
This is why we run a week-long load analysis, measuring your real energy use across a full week so we can see how and when you draw power. That data sizes your system precisely, so you're never paying for panels you don't need or coming up short on the ones you do.
Do solar panels still work on cloudy days?
Yes, but they produce less. Panels generate the most energy in full sun. This is what the battery storage is for. Your batteries bank surplus energy from bright days and release it when skies are grey, or the sun is down at night, keeping your supply steady.
Will solar increase my property's value?
Yes. Nationally, homes with owned solar systems have sold for around 4% more than comparable homes without it, and more recent analysis of sales data puts that premium closer to 7%.
What happens to my power when WAPA goes down?
A system with battery backup keeps running without interruption. The switch from grid to battery is automatic and seamless, so lights, refrigeration, and Wi-Fi stay on without a flicker.
How long does the process take?
The installation is quick, usually a day or two for a residential system. The full timeline, including the load analysis, design, permitting, and scheduling, typically runs from a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on the project.
